I had to share these layouts that I did at the end of last week. I made them for Cathy Z’s Design Your Life class, and after following the prescribed template, I found that I just couldn’t “bling” them. I like them just the way they are–unadorned. Each time I tried to add an embelishment or brush, it seemed like I couldn’t hear the ocean anymore.
This is the very opposite of the way I have been designing lately, but it just felt wrong to add anything else. The layout needed to be as wide open as the ocean I guess.
The pictures are old Polaroids and when I scanned them in, I kept the stained white frame around them. I thought it added to the aged look of the pics. I’ve made Polaroid-like frames around pictures in other layouts, but, ya know, they just don’t look quite like the real thing. Hmm, I could use the frame from these pics to design a digiroid…
And yes, that is me sitting in the warm, sandy surf of Daytona Beach over 30 years ago. I think this is when I fell in love with beach life. I can hear the ocean. Can you?
